Denise Felkin was born in Tamworth, Staffordshire in 1967. She left school and started out on a YTS in fashion design, through this she was influenced to go to art college. Whilst on her Foundation Course in Art and Design at Burton on Trent Technical College she studied alongside Shane Meadows in English Language, Photography and Film Studies. Denise then went on to study BA (Hons) Fine Art at the University of Sunderland on the same course as Richard Billingham and Zeroh, they all graduated in 1994, Denise then went onto study PGCE Art and Design at the University of Brighton and graduated in 1996. She has since lived and worked in Brighton as a Photographic Artist. She is a member of the Phoenix Arts Association in Brighton, where she rents studio space. She also teaches photography within the community through The Phoenix, City College Brighton and Hove and works freelance.
Denise was commissioned by Brighton and Hove City Council to produce 120 limited edition prints to employees that had worked for the Council for twenty-five years or more as part of 'Serving The City'. She received funding from Brighton and Hove Arts Commission to curate a show in her own home on London Road, as part of the Brighton Photo Biennial 2006, this extraordinary multimedia show featured seventeen artists amongst these were Mutoid Waste Company's Joe Rush, Sam Haggarty and Banksy. She has also collaborated with the Mutoid Waste Company at Glastonbury Festival, Rocket Festival and Trash City. The Mutoids are famed for their Unnatural History Museum that was exhibited at Trash City in the Circus and Theatre field at Glastonbury Festival and Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. Denise has also has recently worked with mobile company Mobyko, Festival Eye, The Rocket Festival, Andy Cunningham (CBBC Bodger and Badger)
Denise specialises in Fine Art Photography, Festival Photography, Travel Photography, Music and Entertainment Industry Photography and Commercial Photography.
