Nailed my idea

After several meetings, voluntary work at the Whitfied charity Soup Kitchen,  an Arts Council funded research trip to Birmingham and Gloucester, and another my home town Tamworth for next month.  I've  nailed my idea for making new work in response to my relationship to George Whitefield. I'm not ready to share the details with the public yet for intellectual property reasons.  However, I discussed what I want to do with professionals in the photo industry – Monica Allende, Zelda Cheatle, Tom Hunter & Mike Trow during my time  at PhotoMonth East London and got the thumbs up all round. I've now  reached out to 50% of the subjects I want to photograph, who have agreed to take part. The other half of the particpants and two potential project partners would have received an email from me today. Next I will be preparing for the next mountain to climb, which is to write the National Lottery Project Grant proposal, the deadline January/February depending on what route I take.  Image on left is Acocks Green,  Methodist Church in  Birmingham. shot on Fuji XT5 with 40mm lens, Image on right is captured on a  iPhone with 28mm lens. Hence the need for research trips, as well as the importance  meeting people face to face.

Training in Archives

Currently training in Picture Research & Archive photography. Gained insight into how a DAM works through volunteering with the Museum of Youth Culture and others. DYCP update

DYCP Update: I have been working full-time on my practice. Following some fantastic meetings with industry professionals at Offspring Photomeet in May. I'm currently printing a portfolio to show a photo agency in September. I've got an exhibition coming up in October that I'll be announcing shortly. A new chapter of Unbirth of Venus is almost finished and will be sent to several picture editors on completion. I've shot an experimental project, and a sequel to 0void: The Art of Not Having Kids. Whitefield is an agnostic view of my ancestral blood relationship to George Whitefield, who is my maternal 7th Great Uncle. Over 100 days, I grew white poppies in my studio from seed to compost in the summer months to document the cycle of birth, life and death. The White Poppy represents peace and is known to be given out to the public by the Methodist Church for Remembrance Day. Next week I'm off to Birmingham and Gloucester on an Arts Council-funded research trip to introduce myself and photograph two new churches. Today I submitted a proposal to the Fujifilm GFX challenge. I'll share any news on the development of the next stage of the project in September. If all goes to plan, I will be shooting during Lent and Easter next year. Wish me luck. X

Whitefield

I had a lovely chilled time preparing and serving food, on Whitfield St, for London Soup Kitchen. I enjoyed working with the homeless / vulnerable / poor / hungry. All so grateful of food in their belly and service with a smileI’m doing this not only out of the goodness of my heart. Also to find a way in to a new series regarding my ancestor George Whitefield whom both the street and charity are named after,Here I show an image of a white poppy, to represent peace, grown on my studio window sill, juxtaposed next to a Whitfield street scene. As an experiment in my Develop Your Creative Practice,  Arts Council Funding

Museum of Youth Culture

Day one of my volunteer role at the Museum of Youth Culture was so much fun. I was given six filing cabinets of photographic slides to explore. In four hours my younger years flashed before my eyes, as I recalled my journey through life, personal style, music, portraits, vices, festival, parades, and clubbing. I went from being a punk, to working in a bikers pub during my art college days, with hippies, skins, goths, diy culture, rave and free parties, love parade Brighton, reclaim the streets, photography of glastonbury, festivals, musicians, artists, performers, activism..

Hove Methodist Church

Last night I was invited to do a talk at Brighton & Hove camera club, at Hove Methodist Church. I spoke about projects past present and future. The venue relates to my heritage as the co-founder of Methodism is my 7th great uncle George Whitefield. As part of my Arts Council funding I will research and develop my family lineage, to find a link to the value of leaving descendants. I aim to create a funding proposal towards a much larger body of work in the future.Ironically when I arrived, there were some photography books left outside the back of the church. One by Paul Strand,  I opened the second one ‘Behind the Lens’ by David Suchet, on a random page. The first paragraph read."It has been a great pleasure for me to explore faith through my work…"
